Why is Sui down today?

$0.9723-6.0% 24h-13.1% 7d

Sui's 7.2% slide to $0.9829 is a high-beta version of a market-wide risk-off move, not a Sui-specific event. Bitcoin fell below $81,000 and is down 3.3% on the day after September US CPI came in at 3.7%, above forecasts, pushing Treasury yields higher and putting another Fed hike back in play. The selling intensified overnight as South Korea's Kospi plunged 8%, dragging altcoins lower; the CoinDesk 80 fell 2.2% and all but six CoinDesk 100 members declined.

Leverage amplified the drop. Coinglass data shows $942.1 million in liquidations over 24 hours, with longs accounting for $863.3 million, or 91.6% of the total — including $485 million triggered as Bitcoin broke below $81K. Mid-cap tokens like SUI, with a $4.05B market cap and $851.78M in daily volume, typically fall harder than Bitcoin in such flushes.

Sui's own newsflow has been constructive: roughly 14 million SUI have flowed into US ETFs over five straight weeks, and Basecamp delivered Samsung Wallet and Google Cloud announcements — neither has offset the macro pressure.
