Why is Solana up today?

$117.43+2.0% 24h+15.5% 7d

Solana's 1.4% gain over 24 hours — against Bitcoin's flat tape — tracks a run of network-specific news centered on payments and institutions. The Solana Foundation hired former Binance global CMO Rachel Conlan as chief strategy officer and ex-Polygon Labs executive Jamal Raees as general manager of payments, an explicit push toward institutional adoption. That landed alongside news that Solana-based stablecoins can now book flights with more than 300 airlines via travel platform Nomadz, while Kamino opened an Allez Labs-curated market for GPU-loan-linked sUSDai collateral, allowing USDC borrowing at up to 80% loan-to-value.

Positioning is also a factor: Crypto Briefing reports 65% of Deribit's Solana options open interest expires September 25, which can amplify short-term volatility around the $116.57 level. Developers separately advanced SIMD-0112, aimed at cutting block-propagation latency, through core review — approved for implementation but not yet live on mainnet.

The broader backdrop is mixed. SOL's 15.3% weekly gain outpaces Bitcoin's 10.3%, but the market is absorbing a reported $350 million drain from Bitget wallets, new Federal Reserve stablecoin reserve and capital proposals under the GENIUS Act, and 30-year Treasury yields at 5.44%.
