Why is Internet Computer down today?

$2.88-7.2% 24h-8.4% 7d

Internet Computer's 11.1% daily gain isn't tied to any ICP-specific news in today's feed — it's an outsized altcoin move against a flat Bitcoin, which rose just 0.5% to $83,368 and remains down 2.9% on the week. ICP trades at $3.41 with a $1.9B market cap on $124M of 24-hour volume, a thin enough float for broad risk appetite in layer-1 and infrastructure tokens to move it sharply.

The clearest sector catalyst is Beijing's backing of a national blockchain network, which sent Conflux up more than 26% even though the plan doesn't confirm any specific token's use or an easing of China's crypto rules. That bid has spilled into other decentralized-compute and infrastructure names.

Regulatory and institutional headlines are supporting the wider tape: the SEC's Regulation Crypto Assets comment window closes October 20, Standard Chartered launched custody for Ripple's RLUSD on the XRP Ledger, Kraken parent Payward cleared Dubai's VARA for full market approval, and Jeonbuk Bank began Bitcoin-backed corporate lending in South Korea.
